Welcome to Nunda
Neighbors for Open Space!

Open Space is... The Perfect Neighbor!
Who we are... We are residents of Nunda Township in McHenry County, Illinois, united for a common purpose... to ensure "Smart Growth" in our community.
We are a Grass Roots organization, established to publicize and advocate for the passage of the Nunda Township Open Space Plan and Referendum. Our mission is to educate the public on the benefits of balancing development and Open Space to preserve and protect a healthy quality of life. This includes the protection of our groundwater and the value of our homes and our community.
The Economic Benefits of Open Space:
Open Space stabilizes property taxes -- Towns that protect the most open space enjoy the lowest tax rates.
Open Space reduces the need for community services -- Increased development increases the need for schools, roads and other infracture (Police, Fire Protection, Sewer, Water, etc.).
Open Space helps the environment - It provides vital community services such as flood control, and the natural cleansing and restoration of water into the watershed-- without expensive and unsightly filtration systems.
Open Space attracts business - Businesses actually look for high quality of life when choosing places to build, relocate and grow. Open Space is near the top of the list of things individuals and businesses look for.
Open Space vs. Development Costs
Preserving Open Space is an investment which not only preserves land and protects our way of life, but also SAVES US ALL MILLIONS vs. the true cost of development.
Click to see how Open Space will save us 31 Million Dollars!
Despite the common misconception, DEVELOPER'S "IMPACT FEES" DO NOT BEGIN to cover the true costs associated with the homes they build!
